School board honors representatives from Fred L. Wilson Elementary

The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from Fred L. Wilson Elementary School at its October meeting.

¨                  Rachael Earl:  Rachael is a 4th grade student at Fred L. Wilson. She is a responsible and caring student who is rarely seen without a smile on her face. Rachael really likes to help people. She can easily be paired with a struggling student, and her patience and knowledge can help that student grow. Rachael has served as a classroom representative on the student council, has sung in the Fred L. Wilson talent show and was part of the inaugural drama club last year. She is also a gifted softball player and plays on competitive teams.  


¨                  Kevin Lo:  Kevin is a 4th grade student at Fred L. Wilson who takes learning very seriously and has a true desire to grown and learn. He is an avid reader and is always seen with a book in his hands. Kevin also has a passion for his multiplication facts. He was able to easily learn and retain those facts. Kevin’s positive attitude about learning is contagious. Every teacher that meets him is astounded by his focus and drive. Family is also very important to Kevin. All the stories he writes in class are about the quality time and adventures he shares with his family.


¨                  Annette Moore: Annette is an outstanding and dedicated volunteer at Fred L. Wilson. She is the President of the School PTO and volunteers her time working with small groups in the classrooms, organizing the uniform closet, helping with duty free lunch, and painting the library. Annette believes the teachers should feel appreciated, and she is always willing to help by taking something off of their full plates. If there is a job that needs to be done to help teachers and students, she is always ready to take on the project with a smile.

¨                  Hortensia Delgado:  Hortensia has worked as a Teacher Assistant at Fred L. Wilson for 13 years, where she has spent most of her time in kindergarten classrooms. She currently works with both first and second grade students. She loves working in small groups and helping her students grow. Hortensia also confers with teachers about student progress and helps drive daily instruction. Besides her classroom duties, Hortensia is always available to translate for parents and teachers to ensure the doors of communication are kept open with Latino families at Fred L. Wilson. She is someone you can always count on, never saying no to any task.

¨                  Jody Shaughnessy:  Jody is a first grade teacher at Fred L. Wilson. She also serves as a lead teacher for kindergarten and first grade, working with teachers to help them understand and interpret their data and drive literacy instruction. This is Jody’s third year at Fred L. Wilson, and she previously worked at Shady Brook Elementary. Jody has a passion for teaching and especially reading. She is often able to help even the most struggling readers make progress. She is able to work with teachers to improve their instruction and help them plan more intentional lessons to meet student needs. She is one of the kindest and most caring staff members, always cheering on her fellow staff members. She is the kind of person students, parents and teachers always want to be around.
