Kannapolis City Schools is now accepting applications for free pre-school classes. 

The KCS Head Start and Wee Wonders programs are free, high quality, pre-kindergarten classes located at Woodrow Wilson Elementary and the McKnight Child Development Center.


KCS is now enrolling children who will turn three years old or four years old by August 31st for the 2018-19 school year. 


Families interested in signing up for the Wee Wonders pre-school program may call 704-933-8278 to set up an appointment or get more information. 

Families interested in applying for the McKnight Head Start program should call 704-932-7433 to set up an appointment or request information. 

*In order to be accepted for KCS pre-K programs, families must meet eligibility requirements. 



  • Child’s Birth Certificate


  • Proof of residency (examples: Current lease agreement, mortgage, or utility bill that includes the parent or guardian’s name and address)


  • Family Income (Examples include: Pay stub to document 12 months or December 2017 pay stub, 2017 W-2 statement, 2017 income taxes, employer letter, Unemployment statement, SS or SSI, Child support monthly amount)


  • Copy of child’s current physical, which includes hearing, vision, and dental screenings (All should be signed and dated by physician)


  • Immunization Record


  • Child’s Medicaid or Health Insurance Card


  • Current Parent Photo ID


  • If the child is a foster child or an adult other than the parent is the legal guardian, please bring documentation showing legal custody and guardianship
