Kannapolis City Schools has been selected as a national finalist in the State Farm Neighborhood Assist® program! KCS was chosen from among 2,000 applicants to compete for a $25,000 grant from State Farm. In order to earn the grant, KCS must get enough online support to be among the top 40 vote getters. Voting will take place between August 16th and August 25th at this link. Anyone with a valid e-mail address may vote up to ten (10) times every day between August 16th and August 25th. The 40 organizations that get the most votes will earn $25,000 from State Farm.

KCS would use the $25,000 State Farm grant to create a comprehensive Advanced Manufacturing Program. Currently, Cabarrus County has more than 1,000 unfilled manufacturing jobs. Manufacturing businesses have a tremendous need for trained workers, but they can’t find enough skilled employees. KCS wants to fill that need by expanding its highly successful Welding Program to include Advanced Manufacturing. The State Farm grant would provide manufacturing equipment to train up to 60 students per year. These students would be able to earn industry-recognized credentials and would become career-ready by the time they graduate from high school. KCS has an excellent track record of preparing students through its career certification programs. One hundred percent (100%) of the students that have completed the KCS welding program are either fully employed or pursuing further industry credentials.

Training students for Advanced Manufacturing jobs will give them the skills they need to find well-paying employment in our community, which will allow them to stay in this area and support their families, schools, and non-profit organizations. The ripple effect will be a more robust, highly trained workforce that cares about and enhances our region.

Individuals, businesses, and organizations in the Kannapolis/Cabarrus/Rowan area can support the KCS effort to train more highly skilled workers by voting for the KCS grant application and by encouraging others to do the same.

To vote, simply click here, and vote ten times each day between August 16th and August 25th. By coming together and voting, we can help our local businesses, neighbors, students, and community become stronger and more successful.

The 40 causes that receive the most votes will be announced on Sept. 28 and will each receive a $25,000 grant from State Farm.
