The Global Studies program at Fred L. Wilson Elementary School is being highlighted worldwide by the Participate educational organization. Participate sent a film crew from Ireland to spend two days at Fred L. Wilson Elementary. Participate wants to showcase the success of Fred L. Wilson’s Global Studies program.

The film crew from Ireland spent time in classrooms capturing the teaching and learning environment as well as talking with students and staff. The Irish production team will create videos that Participate will use to train educators all over the country on how to implement a Global Studies program.

This is the first year of the Global Studies program at Fred L. Wilson Elementary. The internationally-focused magnet program has been a tremendous success and has caught the attention of the Participate organization. Participate chose Fred L. Wilson as one of only five schools in North Carolina to visit because of the outstanding way the school has implemented the program and because of the tremendous teaching practices used at the school. The company wants to use the video filmed at Fred L. Wilson to show other schools around the country how to implement a Global Studies program. Fred L. Wilson also has a Language Immersion program that is supported by Participate.

Spectrum News 14 covered the Irish film crew’s visit and profiled the Global Studies Program at Fred L. Wilson. That News 14 story can be viewed used using this link.

The Participate organization is based in Chapel Hill but works with schools all over the country and recruits teachers worldwide. It promotes global studies education and language immersion programs for students and teachers.
