The Kannapolis City School System has earned recognition as the best in North Carolina in marketing and school communications. KCS received a total of five Blue Ribbon Awards for communications excellence—including the prestigious Best of the Best award. The awards were presented by the North Carolina School Public Relations Association (NCSPRA) in Greensboro. NCSPRA recognizes outstanding communications through its Blue Ribbon Awards program.

Kannapolis City Schools received a Gold-level Award--as well as Best of the Best recognition--in the Marketing and Communications category. The district was honored for the way it successfully communicated about major changes taking place during the 2017-2018 school year. The changes included redistricting, new bell schedules, the introduction of magnet programs, adjusting school grade levels, opening a new school building, converting an intermediate school into an elementary school, and creating a Before School Care program. The judges complimented the excellence of Kannapolis City Schools’ community engagement strategy as well as the level of acceptance that accompanied the many changes. The judges named KCS the top district in North Carolina in the Marketing/Communications category.

In addition to the Marketing/Communications awards, Kannapolis City Schools received two Blue Ribbon Awards for outstanding digital media engagement and one Blue Ribbon Award for electronic communications. KCS Director of Community Relations, Ellen Boyd, APR, accepted the district's five Blue Ribbon awards.

NCSPRA President Todd Hagans, Executive Director of Community Relations & Communications for Gaston County Schools, said the work of the award winners was outstanding. "Blue Ribbon Awards are the highest honor in our organization,” Hagans said, “and I congratulate Kannapolis City Schools for gaining statewide recognition as a Blue Ribbon winner and a Best of the Best winner. The Blue Ribbon Awards validate the superior work done by my colleagues and recognize their outstanding efforts to support and promote our public schools.”

NCSPRA’s mission is to build support for public education through well-planned and responsible public relations.
