The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to recognize outstanding representatives from Jackson Park Elementary School during its February board meeting. We are very grateful to the Mary Beth Burgess State Farm Insurance Agency for donating $100 to the Jackson Park library in appreciation of the honorees.

  • Lucas York:  Lucas York has faced hardships in his young life, but he has used his experiences like threads that weave a tapestry to tell his story. Born in Rhode Island, Lucas made his way to Jackson Park where he feels things are truly amazing. His teachers say Lucas is kind, hardworking, and responsible. He encourages his classmates, and he loves to write. He was recently celebrated as a Young Author at the county level with his story about homelessness. It was called, Alive! His work will now compete at the state level. Lucas says his Jackson Park teachers have made him a better writer. Lucas also loves music and says that author or musician are two careers that spark his interest. He is currently learning piano on his own and uses a keyboard to practice. He also is interested in drums and guitar. Lucas loves spending time with his family. He thanks his mom for getting him off to a good start each day and motivating him. He praises his dad for being a great cook. Lucas says he appreciates his dad’s cooking skills because all he can make for himself is a mean bowl of cereal! When asked what he would like to say about receiving this honor, Lucas responded, “Thanks so much for choosing me. I never imagined people would see me this way. I’m pretty quiet, but I guess you guys really do notice.”
  • Megan Fongemy:  Megan Fongemy is the personification of integrity. She is hard working, kind, compassionate, and funny. She is always ready with a smile, a hello, and a helping hand for everyone at Jackson Park. From putting up flags each morning to volunteering to help with Jackson Park’s food pantry, she makes her mark each day. Megan is an excellent all-around student, but her favorite subject is reading. Megan says that Ms. Hunter, her 5th grade teacher, makes reading really fun and that her favorite book right now is Savvy. Megan is also a talented artist and enjoys Ms. Sapp’s art class. In her spare time, Megan plays basketball and is an avid runner. When she grows up, Megan says she would like to become an EC teacher because she would love to help kids with their learning paths or a surgeon so she could save lives. No matter what career choice Megan makes, we know she will be successful and play an important role in every life that she touches.
  • Jane Pegram:  It is hard to think of Jane Pegram as a substitute because she is just part of the Jackson Park family. She has worked in all areas of the building including the media center, classrooms, and as an interventionist. She is always ready to work with students, and everyone loves her smile and enthusiasm. She is available for those hard-to-fill times of the year, and she even volunteers when she is not substituting. Jane is a retired librarian and a lover of books. Her favorite author is Jan Brett, and she recently got to see her in person and get an autographed book. Jane’s first stop was back to Jackson Park because she knew we would be just as excited as she was! Everyone at Jackson Park thanks Ms. Pegram for being a fantastic substitute and a great member of the Jackson Park team!
  • Amanda Krout: Amanda Krout is Jackson Park's PTO president and simply the mama to everyone in the school. She constantly volunteers to bring dances, penny wars, and gifts to Jackson Park's students and teachers. She helps to run the school store for students and pass out snacks for the weekend for students. She works to bring the community into Jackson Park so students and staff can give back to those that support the school. Amanda puts in countless hours to make sure Jackson Park is a great place for children and families, and she is treasure for the school and community.
  • Warren Hipp:  Warren Hipp is truly a master of all trades at Jackson Park. On a daily basis, you can find him working with small groups, teaching math lessons, driving a bus, providing before school care, playing with students at recess, making sure car riders are picked up by their families, and making sure the teachers he works with are supported. He has a strong rapport with fifth grade students and takes the time to build relationships with them. He is wonderful at explaining difficult concepts in an understandable way. When the third grade team needed an extra hand, Mr. Hipp stepped right in and provided extra support for teachers and students. Mr. Hipp is invaluable to the Jackson Park family, and we are excited to have the opportunity to honor his hard work and dedication.
  • Natalie Cook:  It is a beautiful thing when a career and a passion come together. This is evident in the classroom of Natalie Cook. Her students truly become her children, and her classroom is a family. There are no areas too small for a chance for learning in Ms. Cook’s classroom. She uses every opportunity to teach a lesson with her students. Each morning, she greets her students outside with a smile and a hug and welcomes them in for another great day. Parents love the personal care she gives to each of her students and the effort she puts into learning their unique needs. She is constantly trying new approaches to maximize their learning. Ms. Cook also wants to learn from others and will use her planning time to observe teachers in other KCS schools and collaborate on reporting documents that will best express her students’ learning goals. Ms. Cook is a joy to work with a huge part of the heart of Jackson Park.
