The Kannapolis City Board of Education was proud to honor outstanding representatives from Jackson Park Elementary School at its March meeting.

  • Yasmine Jordan:  Yasmine Jordan is a 4th grade student at Jackson Park Elementary who loves going school each day. She is quiet, kind, and a good friend who is always willing to pitch in to help others. Yasmine really enjoys math, especially multiplication, and science experiments. She works very hard to make sure her work is correct the first time. Yasmine is a wonderful singer, and she had a solo at the Jackson Park holiday program.

  • Leonardo Perez:  Leonardo Perez is a 4th grade student at Jackson Park Elementary. He is a bright student that is always prepared for class and is a good friend to others. Leonardo is a wonderful artist and is one of the Jackson Park students that created artwork for the Topping Off Ceremony for the new Kannapolis City Hall site. Leonardo’s favorite school activity is working on the computer. He takes care of the classroom iPads, making sure they are charged each night, and he makes sure the computers are up and running in the lab each morning.

  • Quinten Beaver:  Quentin Beaver is a wonderful volunteer at Jackson Park Elementary. He helps weekly in the Exceptional Children’s classes. Quentin works with students individually and in small groups to help with instruction and special projects. He is an excellent role model for these students, and they light up when Quentin enters the room. He is patient and truly makes the students feel accepted. Quentin also serves as a reading volunteer to kindergarten, first, and second grade classes.

  • Cathy Ervin: Cathy Ervin is a one-on-one assistant to a student at Jackson Park. This is her first full year working with the student, and she has already helped him learn to move his wheelchair and to use a device to help him communicate. At the beginning of the year, Cathy took her student to each classroom to share a story about a child in a wheelchair and to teach acceptance for children who are different. Now Cathy and her student are two of the most popular people at Jackson Park. Cathy says working with this wonderful student is a joy and is more of a blessing for her than for him. Cathy is always willing to help teachers and students with any activity. She uses her creativity and crafting skills to keep the classroom inviting for the students.

  • Barbara Hoover:  Barbara Hoover is a 4th grade teacher and is currently in her 7th year at Jackson Park Elementary. Before teaching at Jackson Park, Barbara taught 4th and 5th grades for 24 years in Rowan County. This is a bittersweet year for Barbara, as she will be retiring at the end of the year. Barbara’s teammate and friend Rhonda Goodman said, “She is an outstanding teacher who has a wonderful rapport with students, parents and peers. She is the teacher that always has visits from previous students. She stays in touch with her students, attending many of their important events like weddings and graduations.” Barbara is very dedicated to her students and works hard to meet their needs. She loves to travel, is an excellent singer and is a huge Panthers fan. Barbara is an important member of the Jackson Park family and will be missed dearly when she retires this year.
