KCS principal, Dr. Mandi Campbell, has been honored with the U.S. Spouse Patriot Award. Dr. Campbell, principal of Fred L. Wilson Elementary School, received the recognition for all she does to support staff members who have active duty military spouses deployed overseas. Kevin Spalding of the Department of Defense (Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Division), presented the award to Dr. Campbell.

Dr. Campbell was nominated for the Patriot Award by Fred L. Wilson's Assistant Principal, Dr. Lyndsey Pelusi. Dr. Pelusi’s husband, Captain Matthew Pelusi, is deployed in Southwest Asia.

Dr. Pelusi nominated Dr. Campbell because of the tremendous support she has received from Dr. Campbell while Pelusi's husband has been deployed. She said Dr. Campbell has provided time for Pelusi to attend doctor’s appointments for her daughter and has even served as a babysitter for Pelusi’s daughter as a way of helping while Pelusi's husband is deployed.

The award presentation was a surprise to Dr. Campbell. She was not aware that she had been nominated or had won the award. By using Facetime, Captain Matthew Pelusi was able to be part of the presentation ceremony from his base in Asia. For winning the award, Dr. Campbell received a framed certificate and a lapel pin from the Department of Defense.

Video of the complete award presentation is available on the KCS Facebook page.
