A.L. Brown High School held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2017 on Saturday, June 10. A total of 341 students marched in the commencement ceremony. There were 34 seniors that graduated Summa Cum Laude, 25 that graduated Magna Cum Laude, and 28 seniors that graduated Cum Laude.

 

Altogether, the Class of 2017 earned more than $1 million in scholarships. The class Valedictorian, Marco Gonzalez, was one of the scholarship recipients. He was selected from among 32,000 applicants to receive the prestigious Rubenstein Scholarship to Duke University. The scholarship will pay his full tuition for all four years at Duke.

 

Marco Gonzalez and fellow senior, Matthew Byrd, addressed the graduates. The keynote speaker was A.L. Brown English teacher Jennifer Ward. She was selected by the graduates of the Class of 2017 to be their commencement speaker.

The graduation ceremony was held in the A.L. Brown Memorial Stadium.
