State Farm has announced that Kannapolis City Schools is among the national winners of its Neighborhood Assist® grant! KCS will receive $25,000 to help create an Advanced Manufacturing Lab.

KCS was chosen from among 2,000 applicants as a finalist to compete for the grant. Today, State Farm officially announced that Kannapolis City Schools is among the 40 winning organizations that will receive a $25,000 grant.

KCS will use the $25,000 gift to expand its Welding Program and create a comprehensive Advanced Manufacturing Lab. The lab will fill a tremendous need in the region to train students for skilled manufacturing jobs. Currently, there are more than 1,000 unfilled manufacturing jobs in Cabarrus County. Local companies can’t find enough skilled employees to fill the available positions.

The State Farm grant will help ease that shortage by providing manufacturing equipment to train up to 60 students per year. The students will earn industry-recognized credentials and will become career-ready by the time they graduate from high school. KCS has an excellent track record of preparing students through its career certification programs. One hundred percent (100%) of the students that have completed the KCS welding program are either fully employed or pursuing further industry credentials.

The official check presentation will be made October 9th during the Kannapolis City Board of Education meeting.
