The Kannapolis Board of Education was proud to recognize outstanding representatives from Kannapolis Middle School during its May board meeting. We are very grateful to the Mary Beth Burgess State Farm Insurance Agency for donating $100 to the Kannapolis Middle School library in appreciation of the honorees.

  • Raven LeXander:  Raven LeXander is a wonderful 8th grade student at KMS and a joy to be around. She is an excellent role model and gives her best in her school work every day. She is a self-directed learner and advocates for herself when needed. Not only is Raven a wonderful student but also a strong and skilled athlete. She balances her schoolwork and extracurricular activities well and will be a tremendous asset to A.L. Brown next year.
  • Leonardo Perez:  Leonardo Perez is a very special 8th grader at KMS. School leaders say Leonardo is one of the quietest students at KMS but also one of the smartest. He is detail oriented and always produces high quality work. He is very kind to others and smiles often. They say he is one of the best and brightest students at KMS, and they have no doubt that he will do great things at A.L. Brown and beyond.
  • Deborah Gill:  Everyone at KMS knows Ms. Gill. She is known throughout the building as one of the middle school’s best substitutes. However, what many people don’t know is that she is really VOLUNTEERING most of her time within the building. She is an amazing volunteer who has a heart of gold. She will do anything she can to make sure that the students of Kannapolis Middle School get the education and support they deserve. She is a tremendous asset to KMS, and everyone at the school is very grateful for all that she does.
  •  Marian Brittain:  Substitutes are an extremely important part of a school’s success and having one you can count on is a treasure. Marian Brittain is definitely one of those Most Valuable Substitutes. All the teachers at KMS loves to make her their first call when they need a sub. She always leaves detailed notes and follows lesson plans faithfully. She arrives on time and does her job extremely well. Everyone at KMS loves Ms. Brittain and knows they can always count on her. They say she is the best!
  • Dedra Drye:  Everyone who enters Kannapolis Middle School can notice how clean and sparkling the building is. That is because of the great work of Dedra Drye. She is the school’s custodian, and she takes great pride in KMS and making the best it can be. She is always welcoming towards students and staff and makes a wonderful first impression on everyone she meets. She informally mentors students as she comes across them in the school, and she always finds ways to encourage good behavior and grades. Many students look for her and want to make her proud. She makes KMS look great, but her contributions go way beyond keeping the school clean. She is a wonderful part of Kannapolis Middle School’ success.
  • Michael Blum:   Michael Blum is an Exceptional Children’s self-contained teacher at KMS. He does a fantastic job of creating a classroom culture that welcomes everyone and sets up students for success. He loves his students, and the way he works with them will put a smile on anyone’s face. He makes sure his students interact with all the students at Kannapolis Middle School, and he welcomes National Junior Honor Society mentors into his room. He teaches his students about more than just curriculum. He helps them become better people as well. When he is not in the classroom, Mr. Blum also helps with football and checks in on players during and after the season. He is one of the reasons that KMS is a wonderful place to be.
