Class of 2018 earns $2.5 million in scholarships

A.L. Brown High School held its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2018 on Saturday, June 9. A total of 352 students marched in the commencement ceremony. More than 40 seniors graduated Summa Cum Laude; 25 that graduated Magna Cum Laude, and 28 seniors that graduated Cum Laude.


Altogether, the Class of 2018 earned more than $2.5 million in scholarships. A.L. Brown’s Student Council President, Arshad Baruti, was selected as one of 300 National Gates Scholars. He also received the Quest Bridge Scholarship which will pay his full tuition for four years at Northwestern University in Illinois.


Arshad Baruti, Student Council President made the Welcome Speech and the guest speaker was Nicholas Buckwell, an A.L. Brown Alumnus. The keynote speaker was A.L. Brown English teacher, Jennifer Linn. She was selected by the graduates of the Class of 2018 to be their commencement speaker.

The graduation ceremony was held in the A.L. Brown Memorial Stadium.
