Healthful Living / Physical Education

Welcome to the Healthful Living & Physical Education Department!
Whereas Health and Physical Education is a required course for graduation, our department offers a variety of elective classes for students to utilize in an effort to become more health-educated, active, and fit. These classes focus on the physical, mental, emotional, and social development of students. Physical activity, as it attempts to encourage growth, development, and movement, is an integral part of the educational process and is closely allied with academic progress. It is the goal of our Physical Education department for students to not only learn important components of healthful living but to physically translate into a healthy lifestyle during adulthood.

I began my teaching career in 1999 as an elementary Physical Education teacher at Monroe Avenue Elementary School in Hamlet, North Carolina. In 2002, my husband and I moved to Kannapolis. At A.L. Brown I teach Health, Physical Education, and Adapted Physical Education. I am also a co-advisor for the Homecoming Committee.
In high school I was fortunate enough to be a member of two state championship softball teams and later played as an outfielder for the Catawba Indians for four years. I coached JV basketball at Alleghany High School for one season before moving to Richmond County. From 2002 until 2004 I was an assistant coach for the Lady Wonder softball team. In 2005 I became the head softball coach. I stepped down from coaching in 2012 to support my son's inherited love of sports. Although I am an avid sports fan of any type, Wonder football and softball are close to my heart!
