The English as a Second Language (ESL) department serves students whose first language is not English. ESL teachers provide instruction in listening, speaking, reading and writing to help students succeed academically in the regular classroom. We also support content teachers' efforts to modify instruction in order to best meet the needs of these students. Apart from our academic role, we also try to help our students' families manage paperwork and understand what is happening at school as well as helping them to communicate more effectively with their children's teachers. We want everyone to feel a part of the A.L. Brown community.
Brown High School.

Educational Biography:
After spending twelve years of my career teaching Spanish, I have the opportunity and privilege of working with students to help them progress in English language skills. I love that I get to see the transition from speaking one's native language to using English in different aspects of society and education. The students have so much promise. I hope I can encourage them to accept the challenges in their lives, to overcome obstacles, and to use the education presented to them as a springboard to graduation and life after high school.
