Happy New Year! All of us in Kannapolis City Schools are looking forward to a wonderful 2012. This time of year brings new beginnings and allows us to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. As we look back on 2011, we recall challenges in Kannapolis City Schools but also an overwhelming spirit of support, loyalty, and determination. That spirit allowed us to overcome obstacles and find success for our students.
Our graduation rate in Kannapolis City Schools is now among the best in North Carolina, and we have opened a beautiful new STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Academy that is making us a leader in STEM education. These accomplishments and others have allowed us be ahead of schedule in achieving some of the goals outlined in our 2015 Strategic Plan, and we are making progress toward reaching our remaining goals. However, we still have work to do. During 2012, we will focus on helping our students to make a smoother transition as they go from our elementary schools to Kannapolis Intermediate School. We also will help them make a successful move from Kannapolis Intermediate School to Kannapolis Middle School. In addition, we will expand our focus on STEM education at all grade levels, and we will make reading and writing an even stronger priority. Parent and community engagement will also be a major focus for Kannapolis City Schools during 2012.
I love this time of year because new beginnings always bring fresh enthusiasm to everything that we do. I am excited about 2012 and about the success that lies ahead for Kannapolis City Schools. Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you and your family all the best in 2012. |
